A letter from our founder

The Global Embassy was founded in a moment of contradiction.

If you follow the daily news, you might believe we are living in a time of permanent division. Public discourse has eroded, language has hardened, and trust feels very fragile. At times, it can feel as though we are closer to permanent rupture than repair.

And yet, this is also one of the most prosperous and possibility-rich periods in human history. Knowledge is abundant, the tools that once belonged to a few are increasingly within reach of many.

The gap between these two realities is not capability, it is collaboration. As a species, collaboration is what made us human. It is how we survived uncertainty, adapted to change, and built shared futures across our differences. So, it goes without saying, when collaboration weakens, so does our ability to move forward together.

The Global Embassy was created to strengthen that civic muscle. It is not a single building (though physical spaces matter and eventually it will be that too). It is not a single institution, though institutions do matter, too. It is a practice, one that lives wherever people show up with curiosity instead of certainty, with listening instead of positioning.

As we celebrate Diplomatic Courier’s 20th birthday and America’s 250th anniversary, the question before us is not whether diplomacy still matters. It is whether we are willing to practice it together, openly, and in new and evolved ways.

The Global Embassy is an invitation to participate, to convene, and to collaborate.
